BETHEL PARK, PA — June 5, 2026 — The official countdown to the season is on. With exactly 90 days until the return of Eastern college football on September 3rd—headlined by UMass at Rutgers as the sole regional matchup on the slate—the Lambert Trophy Championship Association is proud to announce a historic milestone: 90 years of honoring regional gridiron excellence.
As part of a celebration of nearly a century of tradition, the Association is launching #Lambert90, an exclusive campaign anchored by a digital series of 90-second mini-documentaries. Running throughout the upcoming 2026 season, #Lambert90 will spotlight the biggest, most iconic plays and defining moments in Eastern football history.
First awarded in 1936, the Lambert Trophy has long been the ultimate symbol of supremacy for Eastern college football, standing strong through decades of conference realignments and a rapidly changing collegiate landscape.
“The Lambert Trophy is the Eastern Championship, but it is so much more- it is the monument to the enduring legacy and ongoing importance of Eastern college football,” said AJ Mayowski, Chairperson of the Lambert Trophy Championship Association. “As the college football landscape continues to evolve nationally, the Lambert remains a vital anchor for our sport's regional roots. About the Lambert Trophy
First presented in 1936 by brothers Victor and Arthur Lambert in memory of their father August V. Lambert, the Lambert Trophy is awarded annually to the top FBS college football team in the East. Over its 90-year history, the trophy has served as the definitive benchmark for regional supremacy, celebrating the rich heritage of Eastern collegiate football. The eligible schools are Army, Boston College, Buffalo, Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Navy, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, and West Virginia.
